Sprout uses Akahu to securely connect to your New Zealand bank accounts. This page explains how the connection works and what data we access.
When you connect a bank account, Sprout gets read-only access to your transaction data. We'll fetch your last 12 months of transactions, then automatically pull in new transactions daily so your spending breakdown stays up to date.
Your transaction data is used to categorise your spending, track your budget, and show you insights about where your money goes. All processing happens within Sprout — your data is never sold, shared with third parties, or used for advertising.
You can disconnect your bank accounts at any time from the Accounts page. Disconnecting removes all your transaction and account data from Sprout.
You can also revoke Sprout's access at any time by logging into my.akahu.nz and managing your connected apps.
Akahu is New Zealand's open finance platform. They provide the secure infrastructure that lets apps like Sprout connect to your bank account without ever seeing your banking login details.
